1960’s Weekend

1960’s Weekend

Dig out your flares or mini-skirt ready to sample the atmosphere of the 1960s on a Welsh branch line!

We’re delighted to welcome our much-loved 1960’s Weekend back to our events calendar in 2024. This will be held on the 3rd and 4th August 2024 and should be a very enjoyable and action-packed weekend for everyone.

The 1960s were a changing time for the Railways with the phasing-out of Steam and the introduction of diesel, railcar and electric services, as well as the publication of the ‘Reshaping Of British Railways’ Report, which recommended the closure of many rural lines including what is now the Llangollen & Corwen Railway.

Our event will aim to recreate the British Rail network as it was in the 1960s, with an intensive timetable operated by steam, diesel and railcar trains. There will also be many sights and sounds synonymous with the decade – music, cars, clothes, grumpy porters loading parcels onto trains and even angry protests about the line’s pending closure. A vintage rail replacement bus will operate alongside trains.

A Saturday Night Dance and Real Ale Bar will be held on Llangollen station, complete with live music.

It will be really groovy Baby!

More information will follow and tickets will be available in due course.
